Elvira G. Manriquez, matriarch of a large extended family, passed away peacefully on October 25th, 2012, surrounded by family. Elvira was born in the mining town of Sonora, AZ on January 23, 1923. She was preceded in her death by her husband Alberto Manriquez, her parents Hilario and Maria Granillo, and sister Lucy Bonillas. Elvira is survived by her daughters, Mary Thurnbeck (John), Ophelia Mitchell (Jay), Martha Ybarra, Anna Bean (Jerry). Special nieces Sylvia Delgado and Millie Mendez. Grandchildren, Suzanne (Chris), Carlyn (Rich), Matthew (Stacey), Nicholas, Eric, Jade, Danielle (Tony), Stephen (Nuvia), Alyce, Jerry, and Carl. Great grandchildren, Dusty, Joseph, MacKenna, Anthony, Leila, Hunter Rose, Samuel, and two on the way. Brother, John Granillo, sisters Enedina Munoz, Esther Celis, Carmen Huerta, and numerous nieces and nephews. Elvira and her husband owned Elvira’s Mexican Restaurant in Apache Junction from April of 1965 until its sale in December of 2011. Services will be held at St. George’s Catholic Community, 300 E 16th Ave, Apache Junction, AZ 85119. On Monday October 29, 2012, viewing, rosary, and celebration of life from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Funeral mass on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at 10:00 am. Burial following at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 7900 E Main St, Mesa, AZ 85207. The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Hospice Family Care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. George’s Catholic Community.
