Evelyne Mae Chaffey was born on Feb.12,1940 in El Dorado Kansas. Her mother Rosella Perry Rader was married to Paul Perry a service member who died on the USS Arizona during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Her mother worked as a cocktail waitress to support them.  Rosella remarried and had a daughter Terri. Due to circumstances Rosella turned over the care of Terri to Evelyne who was 9 years old.  The family moved to Marysville, California where Evelyne met and soon married the love of her life William (Bill) Chaffey.  She was 16 and he was 22 years old.

Bill was in the Air Force they spent the next 23.5 years traveling around the states and Guam a US territory.  They both loved the service. Evelyne had two children a daughter Holli and a son William Jr. Both were born in Albany, Georgia.  When Bill retired, they moved to Erie, Pennsylvania. They lived there until one day Evelyne had had enough snow!  She quit shoveling halfway thru the driveway.  Pitched away her shovel and stormed into the house saying, ” I’m moving to Arizona!”  They did and loved it here. Bill died in 2003 and Evelyne remained in their home.

She lived in Arizona for forty years. She loved living here with her church “family.” She was a volunteer at the Pinal Public library in the children’s section. She co-founded a reading program that gave books to preschoolers. She was a long-time member of Beta Sigma Phi and reached master’s level in it.  She enjoyed and was very proud being an important part of her grandchildren Kit, Sadie, and Cody lives. She is survived by her daughter Holli and her husband Chuck and their three children Kit, Sadie, and Cody.  And her son William Jr. and his wife Lisa.
