Francis “Frank” Raymond Matty was born on September 11, 1941, in Meriden, Connecticut, to Edward Matty and Theresa (Stawski) Matty. He passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 84.

After graduating from high school, Frank entered the United States Air Force in 1958. He served his country for twenty years as an Aircraft Mechanic, including a tour in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967, and retired in 1978 with the rank of Master Sergeant (MSgt).

In 1971, Frank and his family moved from Connecticut to Mesa, Arizona. Following his military retirement, he continued his career in Aviation as an Airline Mechanic at Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix. Over the years, he worked for Hughes Air West, Republic Airlines, and America West, retiring in 2004. Frank traded in his uniform for shorts and flip-flops, fully embracing the relaxed Arizona lifestyle.

As a child, Frank enjoyed building model airplanes, an early interest that reflected his lifelong fascination with aviation. He was also an avid water-skier throughout his life.

In 1963, Frank married Elizabeth Vitek, and together they had four children. In 1984, he married Eileen Fager.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Eileen Matty; his younger brother, Raymond Matty; and his children, Mark Matty, Karen Matty, and Bryant (LeighAnn) Matty. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Matty, and his daughter, Karmen Matty. God also blessed Frank with nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who called him “Poppa.” He also shared a special love for his dogs and (thanks to Eileen) cats as well.

Frank was a man of faith who held close the words of Psalm 23: “The Lord is my shepherd.” Those who knew him will remember his steady presence and strong values. Frank will be missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Frank’s Victory in Christ, will be held at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Mesa, AZ on Saturday, March 28, 2026.

  • Viewing and Visitation: 10:00 a.m.
  • Service: 11:00 a.m.
  • Military Honors and Interment: 12:30 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery (7900 E Main St. Mesa, AZ 85207)
