Gerald Dale Kinnee, 90, Mesa, AZ, passed away June 15, 2014. Jerry was born August 28, 1923, in Iron Mountain, MI, to William and Hilda (Rutledge) Kinnee. He was a graduate of Kingsford High School, class of 1941. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Atlantic and South Pacific, as a signalman on the destroyer escort U.S.S. Coolbaugh, having graduated from the University of Illinois Signal School. He took part in the first invasion of the Philippines at Leyte Gulf, the second invasion of the Philippines at Lingayen Gulf and the invasion of Iwo Jima. He was authorized to wear the American Theater ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Campaign ribbon with three bronze stars and the Philippine Liberation ribbon with two stars. Jerry was honorably discharged at Great Lakes Training Station as a First Class Petty Officer in 1946. Jerry married the love of his life, Gladys Lidbeck of Aurora, WI, on November 3, 1945. They recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary with their family. For many years, they traveled extensively. In earlier years Jerry was an avid hunter, fisherman and baseball player. After retirement he joined a billiard team and enjoyed playing regularly. He retired as a Bulk Mail Technician from the U.S. Postal Service in Arlington Heights, IL, in 1987. Jerry and Gladys spent winters in AZ, summers were split between IL and their cottage in northern MI until 1991 when they moved to Mesa. Jerry is survived by his wife, Gladys, daughters Marsha (Frank) Schweitzer of Mesa and Marlene (Douglas) Allen of Tempe, and son Randy, (Melodie) Kinnee of Palatine, IL, as well as eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, a brother Arvid (Mildred) Kinnee of Sun City West, and a sister Gail (Dan) Flaminio of Iron Mountain, MI.
