Gerald M. Richards, age 89, formerly of Utica, Michigan, and Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026.

Born on August 14, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, Jerry was the son of the late Gerald W. Richards and Julia C. (Kolter) Richards. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judith A. Richards, with whom he shared 52 wonderful years of marriage. Jerry and Judy were married on May 21, 1960, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseville, Michigan.

Jerry is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne and Ronald Primeau; granddaughter, Jennifer (Daniel) Merritt; and his great-grandson, Zander Merritt. He will also be deeply missed by many extended family members, friends, neighbors, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jerry grew up on a farm in Warren, Michigan, and attended a one-room schoolhouse during his childhood. He graduated from Fraser High School, where he excelled in athletics, participating in football, baseball, and track.

Following graduation, Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was stationed at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. As a member of the Signal Corps, he developed a lifelong passion for amateur radio. A dedicated HAM radio enthusiast, Jerry enjoyed connecting with people around the world through the airwaves and formed many lasting friendships through the hobby he loved.

Jerry’s love for his country was evident throughout his life. A proud patriot and American he was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), having traced his ancestry to a Revolutionary War patriot who fought for America’s independence. This heritage was especially meaningful to him this year during the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.

Jerry was an active member of numerous organizations, including the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Red Mountain Ranch Social Club, Republican Party, and his local HAM Radio Club. He was also a Charter Member of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, reflecting his interest in American politics.

Jerry will be remembered for his ever-present smile, personality, and love of conversation. He enjoyed sharing stories from his life, telling jokes, and reminiscing with family and friends. He made everyone feel welcome and left lasting memories for all who knew him.

Jerry’s legacy of love, patriotism, friendship, and family will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered always.

A Graveside Service will be held Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 7900 E Main Street, Mesa, Arizona, 85207.
