Geraldine (Jeree) Sposito passed away peacefully July 17, 2012 in Vancouver, WA, where she had been living since 1998. Prior to that she had spent 50 happy and productive years as a homemaker in Chandler Heights, where she and her husband, Albert, farmed grapefruit and tangerines on 60 acres. Geraldine, born on February 20, 1923, was the only child of Virgil and Luella Hanks, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her sons, Garrison (Mary), of Walnut Creek, CA, and Richard, of Vancouver, WA, along with 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Jeree met the love of her life, Albert ConoSposito, at the beginning of World War II shortly before he joined the U.S. Navy. They were married in San Francisco, CA, in 1944 on the spur-of-the-moment while he was on leave from his ship. After the war, they lived briefly in southern California, then moved to Chandler Heights, where Albert had found work as a grove caretaker for the Macchiaroli Fruit Company. Within a few years they were able to purchase the first 10 acres of what would eventually become a 60-acre citrus ranch made up of several parcels. In 1956, they moved into the Close estate, an historic colonial-Spanish-style home on five acres of grapefruit bordering the Hunt Highway. They ran their farm for 40 years, raising two sons, enjoying several trips to Europe, and playing golf regularly at the Mesa Country Club and at their summer place near Alpine in the White Mountains, until Albert passed away in November, 1992. Jeree was an accomplished artist – an ardent admirer of the French Impressionists – whose oil paintings now adorn the homes of family members and friends. She was also widely known for her outstanding ability as a cook, preparing Italian food for large gatherings of her husband’s relatives and their many friends in the Valley of the Sun. One cannot evoke the core of Jeree’s presence in the world without also mentioning her sense of style and glamour. She was of an exceptional beauty which gave her the look of a film star even after she had become a grandmother. She and Albert loved giving and going to parties, and their lively vitality as a couple sparked the gatherings they held at their beautiful home. A memorial service for Jeree will be held at 10:00 a.m. on July 25 at the Mountain View Funeral Home, 7900 East Main Street in Mesa, followed by burial at the Mountain View Cemetery next to her beloved husband.
