Gilbert William “Pop” Shea, 74, of Gold Canyon, Arizona, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Gilbert lived a life defined by courage, hard work, laughter and unwavering love for his family. He proudly served his country in Vietnam with the Army’s 101st Airborne Division, a chapter of his life that reflected his strength and dedication.

Gil was happiest when he was outdoors. Growing up, he loved surfing and throughout his life he found peace and joy in camping, fishing, kayaking the Salt River and taking his family on new adventures. Whether he was working on a project of simply enjoying a day with his wife and dogs listening to music, he embraced every moment. More than anything, he cherished time with his wife, children and grandchildren, creating memories they will carry with them forever.

Known affectionately as “Pop,” Gilbert had an incredible sense of humor. He loved telling jokes, making people laugh and lifting the spirits of everyone around him. He had a way of making people feel included and his wild spirit, warm laugh and generous heart left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Gilbert is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Jennifer (Pelle) Shea; his daughter, Morgan Hillis (Kyle); his son, Alex Shea; his grandchildren, Haylie, Brooke, Taylor, Brayden, Falon, and Nate; and his siblings, Richard and Eileen, and his brother in spirit, Dale Snyder.

He was preceded in death by his son, Christian Shea, and by his parents, John and Dorothy Shea. Along with his four sisters Jackie, Helen, Pat and Debbie. Though our hearts are shattered, we find comfort in the memories he created, the laughter he shared and the unconditional love he gave to his family and friends. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and in every sunset and wave we see.

Funeral services will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery, 7900 E. Main Street, Mesa, Arizona 85207. August 22nd, 2026 – 11:00am

Reception to follow

Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Gilbert’s life, share memories, and honor a man whose love, humor, and adventurous spirit will never be forgotten.
