Forever In the Hearts They Leave Behind

Ginger Haycock

June 22, 1926 – March 29, 2022

The world lost Frances Virginia Grice Haycock the evening of March 29, 2022.  Born June 22, 1926, she quickly became known as Ginger because her spicy nature was evident to all from an early age.  Often playing surrogate mother to her brothers Charles (1927-1951) and Billy (1930 – 1969) Ginger learned independence quickly and thoroughly in her youth in Florida and Georgia. She brought her distinctive Southern flavor with her when she migrated to the California where she met the love of her life Delmar Dean Haycock (8 Aug. 1913 – 18 Oct. 1992). Ginger was Dean’s Ginger Snap (Dean often called her ‘Cookie’), and they loved each other fiercely until the day he died. That love bore two children: Sharon Elaine (‘Elaine’) Haycock Proffitt Herrick (27 Jan. 1947) and Robert Dean Haycock.

Ginger lived a full life with many interesting stories and cherished relationships, but she took the most pride in her legacy.  Through Elaine, Ginger became affectionately known as Mama Ginger to eleven surviving grandchildren and a bevy of great-grandchildren—even a few great-great-grandchildren: (1) Jacob Proffitt (Melissa)  with children Teleri, Aerin, Rhys Gale (Claire), and Cordelia Lambert (Connor); (2)  Jannalee Evans (Dan) with children Chandler (Lisette Allen), Hanna Morgan (Derek, with children Docker and Juniper), Danica Joy (McKay Taylor), Maranda Morales (David), Andria, Ruthie, and Zanya; (3) Rebecca Garn (Greg) with children Kylee, Kinsey (Patrick Magee), Saydria, Daxton, and Adalyn; (4) Wendy Proffitt (Kim), with children Breazy Neuy and Seaver Neuy; (5) Joy Dunyon (David) with children Tate (Erin), Kevin (Mariah), Jalee, Jarem, and Trigg; (6) Sherry Macnab (Wendell) with children Rachael, Kindyl, Mitchell, Brenley, and Abigail; (7) Spencer Proffitt (Brianne) with children Connor, Zephyr, and Ryker; (8) Clark Proffitt (Margaret) with children Booker, Ike, Asher, and Miriam; (9) J. Russell Proffitt with children Cashis, Kourtlynn, and Rylee; (10) Cassie Wernli (Brandon) with children Lexi, Lanie, Rett, Bronson, and Lissie; and (11) Callie Christiansen (Bryce).

Services will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at 10:30 am local (limited viewing at 9:30 am), at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints,532 S. Greenfield; Mesa, AZ 85206.

    Elaine & Family,
So sorry to hear of the passing of Ginger! She was one special lady! I enjoyed her friendship over the years. Bev & I were just talking about her a couple of weeks ago wondering how she was doing. She will be together with Dean once again.
