Jamie Douglas Monaco, affectionately known as “Buggy,” “Bugz,” and “Looner,” passed away on October 24, 2026, at the age of 62.

Born in Queens, New York, Jamie was raised in Uniondale, Long Island, before eventually making his home in the Westchester and Putnam County areas. He worked as a screen printer throughout his life.

Jamie was truly one of a kind. Gentle, loving, sarcastic, stubborn, and effortlessly funny, he had a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

A homebody at heart, Jamie enjoyed his own space and familiar surroundings and was never short on personality. He could be loud, mischievous, and hilarious when the moment called for it.

His childhood nicknames, “Buggy” and “Bugz,” were born from the affectionate teasing of his brothers, while “Looner” followed him from his high school days, when he was known to occasionally “loon out.” Each nickname carried its own story, a reminder of the laughter and memories he created throughout his life.

Above all, Jamie was a devoted son, a loyal brother, and an extraordinary uncle.
Jamie shared a particularly special bond with his oldest brother, John Jeffrey. He looked up to him throughout his life and was always his right-hand man, standing beside him and supporting him in whatever life brought their way.

His love for his parents was equally evident. Jamie helped care for his mother, Charlotte, in her later years and remained by her side until her passing. He also did everything he could to help care for his father, John, demonstrating the same tenderness and devotion that defined so many of his relationships.

Jamie shared an especially meaningful, lifelong bond with his niece, Teena. From the very beginning, their relationship was built on unconditional love, trust, honesty, and understanding. More than an uncle, Jamie was a confidant, a source of unwavering support, and a steady and irreplaceable presence throughout her life. He was someone she could always turn to, who listened without judgment and offered the kind of honesty and understanding that made even life’s most difficult moments easier to navigate. Their bond was truly special and one she will forever cherish.

Jamie faced his share of personal struggles, including his journey through addiction and recovery. He never pretended that life was easy or that he had all the answers. Instead, he used his own experiences to offer honest advice and encourage others to make better choices. He knew firsthand how difficult life could become and never wanted others to follow the same path.

Jamie had a wide range of interests that reflected his curiosity and individuality. He loved fish tanks and aquatic life, especially Oscars and other aggressive fish. He enjoyed roller skating, music, and had a natural green thumb, finding joy in growing and caring for plants. He was fascinated by outer space and Star Trek and even dreamed of one day becoming a Sherpa, a reflection of the adventurous side of a man who otherwise loved being home.

Jamie will be remembered for his unmistakable humor, his gentle heart, his stubborn streak, and the way he made people feel loved and accepted. He never needed to be the loudest person in the room to leave an impression, although he certainly knew how to be when he wanted.

He is survived by his loving father, John; his three brothers, John Jeffrey, Thomas Mitchell, and Jonathon Daniel; his two nieces and one nephew. He was predeceased by his beloved mother, Charlotte.

Jamie didn’t have to try to be unforgettable. He simply was. His laughter, his quirks, his kindness, and his presence will live on in the stories his family tells, the memories they share, and the love he leaves behind.
