John “Jack” Cook, 72, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 2, 2016 in Gilbert, Arizona. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, piloting a plane in Flight Simulator, and playing with his dog, Patrick. Jack worked in the semiconductor industry for 42 years. A true outdoorsman at heart, Jack loved being in nature, especially the years spent living in rural Westford, Vermont. His favorite pastimes included walks in the woods, hunting, target practice, fishing, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. Friendly, with a dry sense of humor, Jack truly enjoyed talking with others, and sharing tales of his many adventures. Both of his children carry on his knack for storytelling, and his keen sense of humor. He strongly believed in living by The Golden Rule, and taught his children and grandchildren to do the same. From volunteering for The Bishop’s Fund, to buying groceries for those less fortunate, to bringing water to the homeless on the street, Jack shared his blessings with others.

Jack and his beloved wife Peggy celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary in October of 2016. A loving husband, Jack modeled loyalty, followed through on his commitments, and put the needs of his wife and family above his own. He truly loved dogs, and shared his life with many special canines through the years. When our family was offered our first German Shepherd, Kahn, in 1976, Jack was outspoken in his distrust of the breed. Kahn quickly won him over, and since those days, Jack would only have German Shepherds. Kahn, Baron, Kazie, Tazzie, Einstein, and Patrick all held a special place in his heart. Patrick worshipped the ground Jack walked on, and always laid right next to Jack as he snoozed in his favorite chair. He misses his master very much, and is still searching for him when the door opens.

His survivors include his wife Peggy, daughter, Christine, son-in-law Alex, son John, daughter-in-law Becky, grandchildren Sam, Michael, Katie and Meagan, sisters Catherine, Sally, and Marie, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Mildred and John, and grandson, Christopher.

A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, December 7th at 10:00 am at the Mountain View Funeral Home in Mesa, Arizona. He will be laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Trenton, New Jersey.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Friends for Life Animal Rescue, 143 E. Vaughn Ave., Gilbert, AZ 85233.
