John Dell Chilsen (Jack) passed peacefully to his eternal rest on January 29, 2013 in Snowflake Arizona after moving there in August to be closer to family. Jack as he was known to most was born February 8, 1924. He was the beloved and only child of Harry and Gladys Chilsen. His early childhood was spent in Merrill Wisconsin and later on the farm outside of Hancock in the same state. Jack was formerly of Apache Junction Arizona having moved there in 1956 from Wisconsin. He and his wife Alice lived in “AJ” for 56 years enjoying the weather and small town atmosphere of the early years. They raised three daughters there and watched the town grow. Jack was a truck driver all his life making long distance hauls from Wisconsin to various other states. Upon his move to Arizona he was employed driving tanker truck for the Atlantic Richfield bulk plant in Mesa Arizona until his retirement. He delivered fuel to the stations in Mesa and many of the surrounding farms and ranches. He loved visiting with his customers and catching up on the news of the area. In his retirement he enjoyed making small wood projects and taking over some of the house duties as Alice was now working full time. They still found time to travel some and enjoyed spending time in the White Mountains during the summer. The trips he enjoyed the most were back to Wisconsin to visit family and friends. In later years as his health failed a bit he continued to enjoy eating out at the neighborhood restaurants and he never failed to check out license plates in the parking lots. When he spotted a plate from Wisconsin his favorite comment was “Look, someone from home. I wonder what town?” Jack will be missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife Alice having just celebrated 57 years of marriage on January 21, 2013, his daughters, Kathleen (Michael) Foley, Barbara Chilsen, Debby (Tom) Hill, grandchildren Monica, Kristin, Brittany, Brandon and 5 great-grandchildren. Service and Interment will be on February 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM at the Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, 7900 East Main Street, Mesa Arizona. The family wishes to thank their friends for the compassion and support shown during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Compassus of Show Low Arizona whom we also wish to thank for their kindness.
