Karmen René Matty was born on February 10, 1969, to Francis Matty and Elizabeth Schlee. She passed away on her 55th birthday, February 10, 2024, at her home in Gilbert, Arizona.
Karmen lived a life rooted in compassion, faith, and deep love for those around her. She began her career as a Dental Assistant before later becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant and in-home care provider, roles that reflected her natural calling to care for others. After relocating from California to Arizona to support her mother, she continued dedicating herself to helping those in need with kindness and selflessness.
She was a devoted Christian who found strength and comfort in her faith in Jesus Christ. Karmen saw rainbows as a symbol of God’s promise and surrounded herself with bright colors that reflected her vibrant spirit. She will be remembered for her infectious laughter, strong sense of right and wrong, and her outspoken, loving nature.
Karmen had a special love for animals, especially her Yorkshire terriers, whom she adored. She also found joy in gardening, sunshine, and music. She loved classic rock, particularly bands like Tesla, UFO, and Van Halen, and in her younger years, she played the clarinet.
Though she did not have biological children, Karmen was a proud and loving stepmother to Michelle Martin. She shared a close bond with her nieces and nephews, often affectionately referring to them as her “little Karmies.”
Karmen is survived by her stepdaughter, Michelle Martin; her siblings, Mark Matty, Karen Matty, and Bryant Matty; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Schlee.
Karmen will be remembered for her warmth, her laughter, and her unwavering faith. Her life was a reflection of love, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She will be laid to rest with her father, Francis R. Matty, who passed on March 7, 2026. Their final resting place is at Mountain View Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona.
