She was the daughter of Guy and Georgia (Hollowell) Sharp, and younger sister to Buthene (Sharp) Haskell. Laura married December 30, 1951 to Herbert W. Satchwill, who died February 19, 1990. She graduated from Huntington College, Huntington, IN where she was voted Campus Queen in 1951. Later she earned a Masters Degree in Education at Arizona State University. She taught school for 9 years in Indiana, then after moving to Arizona in 1961, she taught another 24 years in Mesa, for a total of 33 years of teaching. They later moved to Arizona’s White Mountains, where Ellen enjoyed gardening, feeding the many birds, and painting the beautiful landscapes, until Herb’s death, after which she moved back to Mesa.  Ellen loved art and painting. She was also a singer and pianist who often played for church. Ellen with Herb on guitar and vocals, sang country gospel at local churches. She also enjoyed researching family genealogy, and belonged to the genealogy club at Sunland Village East.  She loved family and friends, and treasured the time she spent with all of them.  She was the greatest mother, son Greg of Mesa, AZ could ever dream of. Ellen attended nearly all of our Genealogy Club meetings. She and I were often the only persons to go the the Mesa Regional Family History Center. We generally researched our own family lines, but on occasion I helped her since she had limited computer experience.

I didn’t know of her art. She certainly was a well rounded person. It wsa a delight to have known her.

Greg. I’m very sorry to learn of the passing of your mother. I only knew your mother for a short time, through our trips to the FHC, but she was a very nice lady. Please accept my sympathy for your loss.

    Dear Greg,

Our thoughts and love are with you during this time of sorrow. You gave a beautiful tribute to your mother. May all the memories you have sustain you in the days ahead.

Looking forward to seeing you whenever you get back to Indiana.

  5. Tony Pulido Jr. says:

    Dear Greg,
Sorry to find this on the net. I wish I would have gotten in contact with you sooner then I could have said good bye. I am really going to miss Ellen; my dear friend and I will miss our little letters we wrote back and forth to each other. I will never forget her or Herb and the fun times we had in Nutrioso. I also remember Ellen coming over and tutoring me and then going to see the little mermaid after I earned better grades. She was an awesome teacher.
Sorry again for not getting in contact sooner. Take care Greg.
    With Love,
    Tony
