Leland Dwain Swanson passed away in his home November 7, 2011. One of four children, Lee was born Sep 12, 1925 on a farm in Gypsum, KS to the late Martin E and Julia Lindstrom Swanson. After completing grade school, he joined the Navy “Sea Bees”. He then attended college in Wichita and Washington, graduating SLC with a degree in Physics from Washington State University. In addition to a successful career in aerospace engineering, Lee was an ordained minister in the Church of Religous Science. He was deeply spiritual, a student and teacher of religion and philosophy much of his adult life. After retiring, he lived and traveled in an RV across North America for 10 years, finally settling down in Mesa, AZ. He loved the outdoors and hiked the Grand Canyon 10 times between the ages of 71 and 81. He was also a champion pool player and excellent dancer. He is survived by two older siblings, Elmer and Dorothy, the mother of his children and former wife, Patricia, his dear friend and companion the last 15 years of his life, Eleanor (“Nornee”), and his four children, Leland Jr., Christine, John and Julia. Memorial services will be held at 2 pm December 2 at the Mesa Dunes mobile home park.
