Louis Jerry (Jerome) Petty went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Jerry was born to Caroline June (Bright) Petty and Louis Balser Petty on February 1st, 1947 in Bellefontaine, Ohio. He graduated from Westwood Highschool in Mesa Az, in 1965 of June. His church elders selected him to attend the Theological Seminary of Reformed Episcopal Church in Philadelphia and he completed his course of study in May of 1968.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sandra (Lewiski) Petty residing in Mesa, AZ. He was the oldest of 5 children. His sister Linda Snyder preceded him in death on July 8th, 2024, and is survived by a sister, Gina Sorg (and spouse, Greg), and two brothers: Thomas and William. The mother of his 4 children, Marilyn (Passerini) Petty also preceded him in death on January 23, 2021. They are Rachel Capicotto (spouse Glenn), Benjamin, Stephen (spouse Amanda) and David (spouse Kimberly). He is also the proud Pop Pop of 6 grandchildren.
Upon graduation from seminary, he pastored 3 churches. In New York, New Jersey, and Penna. He also worked for several years while a pastor in Penna employed by Amycel and Sylvan, delivering mushrooms. Then he changed to driving fuel trucks for Agway, Inc. After marrying Sandy and moving to AZ, his various jobs included 2nd Avenue Design in Scottsdale, working with his son for a fire sprinkler company at Sky Harbor Airport, and worked as an armed security guard for various companies. He enjoyed learning Spanish and taught teenagers at a local Christian School as well to his grandson, Aaron.
He was a member of Grace Covenant Church helping on the security team and teaching a bible study class. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hiking, taking vacations, caring for his dogs, playing golf- now and again, riding his motorcycle, and reading. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
He will be missed by his family and many friends. Rest in peace, Jerry. You were a good and faithful servant. We are blessed to call you husband, dad, and friend.
I am going to miss my friend on Saturday morning when he comes to work he spoke about what he did with the family over the week. Then we talked about God. He was truly a man after God’s heart. Rest in peace, my friend.
