Louis “Louie” Frank Spadafore

October 8, 1957 – April 26, 2023


Louis “Louie” Frank Spadafore, 65, entered eternity peacefully on April 26, 2023, with his family by his side.

Louie was born October 8, 1957 in Detroit, Michigan.  He was the son of the late Frank Spadafore and Edith Angela Galluzzi.

Louie served his community in multiple roles in a career that spanned over 40 years.  Initially working in the medical field as a Physiological Monitoring Technician at St. Luke’s Hospital in downtown Phoenix, he transitioned to a position with the City of Phoenix Parks & Recreation Department after receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Arizona State University in 1987.

In 2006, while continuing his work in the Parks & Recreation Department, he applied to and was accepted into the Phoenix Police Academy. After completing his Academy training, he was sworn in as an Arizona Post Certified Law Enforcement Officer and served in the Phoenix PD Reserve Division as a patrol officer from 2006-2014.

In 2013, after retiring from the City’s Parks & Recreation Department, Louie began a full-time career in law enforcement for the State of Arizona.  He worked for the Arizona Department of Transportation’s Enforcement and Compliance Division & retired in 2019 as a Detective with the Office of Inspector General.

Louie was always ready to serve and was a youth sports coach, Mountain Pointe Pony League baseball coach, USO volunteer, Scout Leader, and member of the Knights of Columbus.  He was also a member and avid volunteer for the Arizona Parks and Recreation Association & the National Recreation and Parks Association during his time with the City of Phoenix.

Louie is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Mary, sons Frank (Adrienne) of Puyallup, Washington, Michael (Dana) of Phoenix, & Anthony of Phoenix, grandsons Connor & Kyle of Puyallup, Washington,  sister Linda Rice of Fraser, Michigan, brother Dino of Clinton Township, Michigan, aunt Rita Spadafore of Gilbert, many nieces, nephews, & loving cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents & beloved sister Victoria (Vicki) Ensroth.

Services to honor & celebrate Louie’s life will be held Thursday May 11, 2023 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church 3550 E. Knox Road Phoenix, AZ 85044.  Visitation is from 10-11 am, with a funeral Mass from 11-12 pm.  Louie will be laid to rest immediately following the Mass at Mountain View Cemetery 7900 E. Main Street Mesa, AZ 85207 with Police honors.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of the Valley, Ivy Brain Tumor Center, Barrow Neurological Foundation or the USO

    Our beloved Louie was more than a friend. He was family. We met in our 20s through my sister-friend, his wife, Mary. Our friendship lasted 40 yrs- through job changes, births of children and grandchildren, graduations, birthdays, new homes, loss of family. We loved him very much and he will be missed deeply.
