Madelyn L. Hubbard was born in Apalachicola, Florida on February 8, 1916 to the late Willie Speed and Lillian Speed-Nelson. She was the second child of eight children. She was preceded in death by her sisters Rita Sealy and Ruth Nelson, and brother Maynard Nelson. Madelyn was educated in the Franklin County School System. After graduating from Holy Family Catholic School, she went on to complete here high school education at Dumba High, Apalachicola, Florida. Madelyn moved to Tucson in her early twenties. She received her Cosmetology Certification at the Bisbee Beauty School in Bisbee, Arizona and worked many years in the Tucson area. Madelyn was a member of St. Michael And All Angles Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and was a member of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW). She was also a member of the choir, served as an Usher, and participated in the yearly candy making at St. Michaels. Madelyn was united in marriage to Walter Hubbard on December 8, 1965, who preceded her in death. She moved to Mesa, Arizona July, 2007 and ended this part of her life’s journey on March 17, 2010 at the Garrett Adult Assisted Living Home under Sunrise Hospice care. She is survived by three brothers Willie Speed of Apalachicola, Florida, Phillip Nelson of Houston, Texas, Robert Nelson of Pasugula, Mississippi. One sis, Doris Nelson Fritz of New York, New York and many nieces and nephews.
