Marie Sciascia

Passed Away on February 19, 2020


Marie Sciascia, 90, of Tempe, Arizona, formerly of Palmer Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 19, 2020, at The Villa Hospice in Mesa, Arizona.

A native of Phillipsburg, Marie was born on February 2, 1930, the daughter of the late Mary (Grainda) and Leslie Lucas.  Marie graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1948.  During her time at PHS, she met her future husband, Mario Sciascia, to whom she married on November 27, 1948.  Marie and Mario celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary together on November 27, 2018.

Marie enjoyed many careers throughout her life, having started with the Ingersoll-Rand Company in Phillipsburg and going on to work at Orr’s department store in Phillipsburg, IRCO Community Federal Credit Union in Phillipsburg, and Union National Bank of Clarksburg, West Virginia.  She also moonlighted as an Avon sales representative for many years and enjoyed calling on her customers around the Lehigh Valley.

Among many hobbies, Marie particularly enjoyed ceramics, baking, cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.

Marie is survived by her son, Thomas, of Mesa; daughter, Elaine, of Chandler, Arizona; grandson, Matthew, of Chandler; two great-granddaughters, Natalie and Lillian; and many extended family members and friends.

Marie was predeceased by her husband, Mario, and her brother, James.

Services and interment will be held on Wednesday, February 26, with the Visitation beginning at 11:00 am, followed by the Funeral at 12:00 pm at Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery, 7900 E Main St, Mesa, Arizona.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation in Marie’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
