Michael Vincent “Jim” Margiasso entered into eternal rest on May 23, 2019, at Banner Desert Hospital, Mesa, AZ due to complications following spinal surgery. He enjoyed an active lifestyle until 2 weeks prior to his passing when he suffered a fall in his home that required surgical intervention. Michael was born December 20, 1925 in Bronx, NY to Teresa and Charles Margiasso. Michael was a WWII combat veteran having enlisted in the Army just days prior to his 18th birthday.
As a member of the 65th Division of General Patton’s 3rd Army, Michael served in Central Europe, Rhineland where he was awarded the European Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, The Bronze Star Medal, the Liberation of Austria Medal, and the Army of Occupation, Germany, Combat Infantry Badge.
Upon returning to the Bronx following his honorable discharge from the military, Michael married the love of his life, Lucy Chiavelli, a girl from his neighborhood that he had known for most of his life since grade school. Lucy waited for him to return from the war, knowing that they were meant to be soulmates forever.
On November 14, 1948 they had a big beautiful wedding at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Together they had two sons, Michael and Anthony. They raised their boys in the Bronx where NY Yankees baseball was their passion. Michael and Lucy enjoyed 62 years together until Lucy passed in 2010. Michael was employed by the State of NY. Soon after his retirement, in 1997, Michael, Lucy and Anthony decided to leave the Bronx and join their son, Michael, in Arizona.
Michael enjoyed golf, baseball and blackjack. He was a Saturday morning regular at Casino Arizona. He looked forward to baseball season and watched every single Yankee game. He loved listening to his music. His favorite singer was Jimmy Roselli. In his later years, he watched nearly every western movie that had ever been made. Known as “Uncle Jim” to family and friends, he was everyone’s favorite Uncle.
Jim had a passion for good food and was a terrific chef. He cooked all his Italian specialties and delivered them to friends, neighbors, and even to the staff at his doctor’s offices. Jim never knew a stranger. He was a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He was loved by all who had the honor and privilege to know him. He will be missed by everyone whose lives he has touched.
Jim is survived by his sons, Michael and Anthony of Mesa, AZ. A graveside service, with military honors, was held on Wednesday, May 29th at 10:30 a.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, 7900 E. Main St. Mesa, AZ 85207.
