Monnie Jan Potts

September 5, 1943 – April 13, 2021


Monnie Jan Potts, 77, passed away on April 13, 2021 in Mesa, Arizona, surrounded by the love of his family.

Jan was born on September 5, 1943 in Friona, Texas to Claudie and Mavis (Brown) Potts. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1962 and joined the United States Army in 1963 where he served until 1969. He married Barbara Jean Nelson on December 26, 1963. Jan and Barbara were house parents with the High Plains Children’s Home in Amarillo, Texas during the 1970’s.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from West Texas State University and his Master of Business Administration degree in Technology Management from the University of Phoenix. Jan worked at Bell Helicopter in Amarillo, Texas and in 1989 his family moved to Mesa, Arizona. He worked as an engineer for McDonnell-Douglas/Boeing, specializing in corrosion of Apache Helicopters.

Jan served as an elder at Sun Valley church of Christ for 20 years. He spent countless hours studying the Bible and outlining Bible studies which he enjoyed sharing with others in his daily emails.  Jan also enjoyed taking photographs. He never missed the opportunity to pull our his camera and capture the moment.

Jan is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Barbara Potts, son Kevin (Dana) Potts and daughter Staci (Charles) Singleton of Mesa, Arizona. He was beloved “Papa” to his four grandchildren, Hannah and Hayden Potts and Shealee and Grant Singleton of Mesa, Arizona. He is also survived by his sister, Terri Coffey of Lubbock, Texas.

He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, wonderful father, and the best papa. Most importantly, he was a faithful servant of Christ.
