Norman Walter Ott, age 83, departed this life to be with Jesus, his Lord and Savior, on November 14, 2012. Norm was born in Scribner, Nebraska on December 19, 1928 to Walter Ott and Anna Moderow. His family moved to Santa Ana, California in 1942. He was baptized in Nebraska in January 1929 and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Santa Ana, California in Spring of 1943. He attended Concordia Seminary, St. Louis Missouri, graduating in 1954. He was ordained in 1954 in Decatur, Illinois and served as pastor in a dual parish setting at Lutheran churches in Milton Freewater and Pendleton Oregon. During his ministry, he accepted calls to serve the amazing bodies of Christ at:

1957-1961 St. Phillip’s Lutheran Church in Compton, California
1961-1967 Trinity Lutheran Church in Olympia, Washington
1967-1978 Immanuel Lutheran Church in Orange, California
1978-1980 Eternal Life Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona
1980-1991 St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Claremont, California

He then served as Chaplain of the Day at Banner Baywood Hospital in Mesa, Arizona along with helping to serve to the body of Christ at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona. Norman enjoyed all sports, being a great fan of football and basketball; he golfed for many decades and played basketball in his later years of high school at Concordia in Oakland, California. He liked cars, science fiction, fishing, and was a great detective, always solving the mystery before it was uncovered. He had a love for travel, was a fabulous story teller, and when the occasion arose, he enjoyed a good beer. His zest for life and care for others were evidenced in his daily life. Norm’s love of his Lord and the ease in which he shared the message of eternal salvation are hallmarks of his life’s path. He is survived by his wife, Jane; daughters, Beth, Kathy, and Rachel; sons, Jim and Matt; grandchildren Brandon, Chelsea, Kianna, Alexandra, Vianney, Charlie, and Chase; sisters Sally and Dorothy. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gary; sisters Irene and Lois.

The world is a sadder place without Norm, but think of all the joy in heaven with him there

  2. Deborah says:

Pastor Ott was an amazing person. It was through him, that I truly learned of Gods love and forgivness. My confirmation verse is John 3:16. Pastor knew that I needed that verse. I was so happy that he gave it to me. Rest in peace Pastor Ott. I will never forget you.
