Raymond Aime Savoie

October 6, 1928 – December 18, 2010


Raymond Aime Savoie, 82, of Mesa, AZ passed away on December 18, 2010 with his loving wife Shirley and his family at his side. Ray was born in Saint Boniface, Manitoba, Canada on Oct 6th. 1928 He was pre-deceased by his loving parents Louis and Simone Savoie, his 1st wife Lorraine and his brother Roger. He will be sadly missed by Shirley, his wife of 18 years; his daughter Evelyne (Phil) Gaudet, Edmonton, Alta, Can; his sons Rennie (Sandra) and Greg (Bernadette), Winnipeg, Manitoba, Can; many grand children and great grand children. Also cherishing his memory are his brother; Aime (Ida); Guy (Lea); sisters Estelle (Tony) Possberg; Jacqueline and also many nephews and nieces. Raymond was educated at Provencher Collegiate School and Saint-Boniface College in Saint Boniface, Manitoba, Canada. In his early years, he joined the Canadian National Railway where he served as an engineer for many years, all the while holding down many part time jobs in order to provide for his growing family. Leaving the railroad, he became sales representative for AMF bowling products, covering the vast territory of all of Western Canada. He moved on to a position with Canada Cement Lafarge and enjoyed some success with this company when, in the early 1970’s, he was offered a managerial position with Western Gypsum, a wallboard manufacturing company. He quickly rose to the general sales manager’s position with responsibility for Western Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan & Alberta provinces. Upon his retirement in the early 1990`s, he moved to Mesa, AZ. He was very proficient at most everything that he undertook, He planned and built his home in Winnipeg on the outskirts of the city including a large indoor swimming pool. In Mesa, not to be denied, he quickly added to the park model along with an Arizona room, deck and Jacuzzi. Sports fascinated him as he quickly mastered the ones that he undertook. He was an exceptional hockey player, scouted by the pros in his junior playing days. Fishing and duck hunting were a passion; always appreciating the moments when he could get away to relax and enjoy these leisurely past times. He was more than just a good golfer, Shirley and he relished their time together on the links. In retirement, shuffleboard, darts, dancing and of course travelling in the motor home were activities that knew no bounds. He fully participated, was tireless and did not hesitate to serve in an executive capacity in various leagues and organizations. His organizational skills will be missed by many.
