Robert Donald Sterling better known as “Don”, peacefully passed away at his home in Apache Junction, Arizona on December 15,2023 at the age of 84. Don was born and raised in Palo Alto, California. A born athlete he participated in various sports but his favorite was softball. He was a member of the Arizona Winter Softball League for thirty years and the last member of the original team to be playing ball when the League dissolved. Don was an accomplished Equestrian and blazed the trails of the North and Southwest over
forty years with his wife Virginia. Don leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Virginia, two daughters Lezlie Anderson and Jessica Schubach; his son Michael van Krieken; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Don is preceded by his father Gail and mother Dorothy; his daughter Margo Gernaat; his son John van Krieken and great-grandson Michael Bowie. Funeral Services will be held on December 29 at 2:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2520 East Old West Hwy, Apache Junction, Arizona. Don’s resting place will be at Mt. View Funeral Home and Cemetery 7900 East Apache Trail, Mesa, Arizona.
