Robert (Bob) Lee Szeman

Robert L. Szeman, 79 years old, suffered a stroke on June 1, 2021. He passed away on December 4, 2021. When Bob returned from the Army, he went to work for Gould in Napoleon, Ohio where he met and fell in love with Jean (Murrey) Rathburn. They were married on September 30, 1967. They celebrated 54 years of marriage in 2021.

In 1973, Bob and Jean moved with two children and a puppy to Mesa, Arizona where they enjoyed the warmer weather and activities. Bob worked as a Network Administrator for the State of Arizona in Phoenix. He enjoyed building and maintaining computers and installation of software until he retired. Then he was a Realtor for a few years which included taking professional pictures of homes for sale. He loved photography. One reason people enjoyed working with him was because he had a great sense of humor and liked making people laugh.

Bob loved traveling, water skiing, boating, jet skiing and camping at Canyon Lake and other places. He also enjoyed 4-wheeling in Dewey-Humboldt, Arizona, and watching basketball games. His most favorite times were when he was playing Euchre and Hand and Foot card games with family and friends. He was well known for his tacos and enjoyed making those quite often. He also enjoyed learning more about the Bible and making friends.

Bob was born in Adrian, Michigan, on February 8, 1942. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Beatrice (Stark) Szeman. He was their second child of four children.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Murrey Szeman, Gilbert, Arizona; his children, Patti Jo (Szeman) Hultstrand, Mesa, Arizona and Jason Szeman (with wife, Karyn), Orinda, California. Three grandchildren; Maxwell (Max) Hultstrand, Phoenix, Arizona, Olivia Szeman, Orinda, California, and Dane Szeman, Orinda, California. He loved his family very much and was so proud of them. Brothers and sister; Richard Szeman, Farmington Hills, Michigan, Joseph (with wife, Char) Szeman, Adrian, Michigan and Judy Szeman, Traverse City, Michigan.

The Memorial Service will be held on February 5, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Greenfield Lutheran Church, 425 N. Greenfield Rd., Gilbert, Arizona 85234.

My deepest condolences to your family in the passing of my first cousin, Bobby. He was a wonderful man and I know his loss is heartbreaking. I remember visiting you guys in Tempe/Mesa and hanging around your beautiful backyard pool. The photos are always funny because Bob was soooo tall lol.
