Ruthann Colette Connolly, born March 22, 1947 in
Cambridge, MA to Robert M. and Ruth A. (Clifford) Connolly. Ruthann was
raised in Squantum, MA and attended and graduated from Archbishop
Williams High School and later Northeastern University. She married
Lawrence E. Akin, a United States Navy aviator, and to this union one
child was born: Kerry Ann. Ruthann’s professional life included
teaching first grade in Sunnyvale, CA, fourth grade in Albuquerque, NM, fifth
grade in Manassas, VA, and teaching special needs children for both
Chandler and Gilbert school districts in AZ…to name a few. Ruthann
dedicated her life to teaching children, and took great pleasure in shaping the
great minds of our future.
Ruthann is preceded in death by her parents, Robert M. and Ruth A. Connolly;
sister Regina M. Hizer; and brothers Daniel M. and Robert C. Connolly.
Ruthann passed away Sunday afternoon, October 6th. She is survived by
her daughter and son-in-law Kerry A. Akin and Roy M. Stickler of Gilbert, AZ,
brother Gerard R. Connolly of Aldie, VA, and grandchildren John and Robert
Stickler of Gilbert, AZ. Ruthann truly loved being a grandmother
“Nana” and spent as much time with her grandchildren as
possible.
Ruthann will be cremated and private memorial services will be held by her
family and close friends at 2:00 pm Sunday October 27, 2013 at the home of
Kerry A. Akin and Roy M. Stickler in Gilbert, AZ.
