Shirley Turner of Mesa, AZ passed away peacefully on October 8, 2015 in Apache Junction AZ. Shirley was born on September 9, 1932 in Preston, IA to Gustave and Mary Ruchotzke. Shirley is survived by her brother Ambrose (Bernetta), Dewitt IA, her five children, Sheila (Bob) Wargo, Apache Junction AZ, Sharon (Russ) Reinke, Davenport NE, Michael (Jane) Thompson, Mesa AZ, Mary (Jeff) Bell, Apache Junction AZ, Randy Thompson, Clinton IA, seven grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley is preceded in death by her beloved husband Joseph, sister Mary Jane, daughter Cheryl, and grandson Ernie.

As a child Shirley enjoyed being a farm girl living in the country. From the time she was old enough she would be outside with her Dad, whom she loved spending her time with. Shirley was definitely a Tom Boy and helped with all the chores on the farm. She loved going to dances with her brother Ambrose.

Shirley moved to Arizona in 1967 where she met and married the love of her life, Joseph. Her career was spent as an administrative assistant. Shirley prided herself in her homemaking, cooking and decorating skills. She had a real flair for fashion. She and Joseph loved being with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Their home was the gathering place for family celebrations, barbeques and playing games. They also enjoyed traveling, home projects and socializing with friends.

In retirement Shirley and Joseph resided in Munds Park, AZ where they both loved the outdoors, long walks and gathering with family and friends.

Shirley was a proud member of the American Legion, Post 27 since 2003. She served as a member of the Auxiliary and was on the Executive Committee. She volunteered for the Auxiliary Dinners, Holiday Boutique and preparing boxes and gifts for the troops.

It was here at the Legion that she met her long time companion, Dennis (Hokey) Hokensen. They enjoyed volunteering, socializing at the Legion, and travelling to Cancun Mexico.

A graveside service for the family will be held Thursday October 15, 2015, 11:00 A.M, Mountain View Cemetery, 7900 E. Main St, Mesa AZ. A Celebration of Life will follow at the American Legion Post 27, 1018 S. Meridian, Apache Junction AZ, at 1:00 PM.
