On Saturday, April 21, 2012, surrounded by her children, Thelma was guided to her eternal home, where roses never fade and loved ones wait with open arms and warm embraces. Thelma was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on October 5, 1925 to William and Thelma Troop. She was the beloved wife of Lt. Col. Herbert “Dick” Barnhart (deceased). Thelma is survived by her four children: Vickie Hildebrand (Stephen), Herbert Barnhart, Jr. (Becky), Dawn Nicklovich (Doug), Wendy Galluzzo (David)…all residing in Arizona; seven grandchildren: Sheila, Garrett, Brientnall, Curt, Trent, Nick, Tess; two great-grandchildren: Mia & Gibson. Residing in Pennsylvania are her sister, Jackie King (Bobbie) & brother, Bill Troop (Sally) as well as many other family members. She was a 1943 graduate of McCaskey High School. Thelma volunteered as a Red Cross Grey Lady at Lancaster General Hospital. While living in Virginia, she helped build Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, of which she is a charter member. Her family will cherish and truly miss her kindness, grace, radiant smile, sense of humor, infectious laughter, and unconditional love. She had a passion for sewing, Bridge, dancing & music. Thelma was always fun to hang out with, whether it be enjoying a dinner theatre, riding the tram through Sabino Canyon, watching baseball on tv, or enjoying the antics of her grandchildren playing in her backyard pool. In recognition of Thelma’s 6 year battle with Alzheimer’s, the family asks that you consider a memorial donation to either the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or The Pat Summitt Foundation Fund (patsummitt.org). A service celebrating Thelma will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 7900 East Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85207.
