GILBERT, ARIZONA – Twila Mae Freeman, 91, of Gilbert, Arizona and formerly of Dumont, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Clearwater Agritopia senior living in Gilbert. Twila was born December 15, 1931, in Aredale, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Muriel Noelting. She grew up in and around Aredale, Iowa and graduated from Dumont High School with the class of 1949.

Twila married Donald Louis Oitzman on October 30, 1949, in Hampton, Iowa. Twila and Don lived in Dumont, Iowa where they raised their three sons: Doug, Jeff and Tim.

Twila married Earl K. Freeman on December 27, 1992, in Dumont, Iowa. They made their home in Dumont during the summers and in Mesa, Arizona during the winters. Twila and Earl enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and family.

Twila worked for the U.S. Postal Service as Postmaster in Geneva, Iowa. After several years in Geneva, Twila became the Postmaster in Dumont, Iowa.

Twila was an active member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Dumont until she moved to Arizona full time in 2014. Twila enjoyed living the last 9 years of her life in Arizona surrounded by family, including her 3 sons and their spouses, 6 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren.

Twila was preceded in death by her parents and husband Earl Freeman.

Surviving members of her family include her three sons: Doug (Glenda) Oitzman of Queen Creek, AZ; Jeff (Janet) Oitzman of Chandler, AZ; Tim (Molly) Oitzman of Westlake, TX; step children: Pamela (Chuck) Frost of Cedar Falls, IA; and Janet (Brian) Christiansen of Waterloo, IA; grandchildren: Krystal (Paul) Stegmaier of Marquette Heights, IL; Abby (Casey) Chavez of Queen Creek, AZ; Ashley (Tyler) Rutt of Queen Creek, AZ; Paige (Mitchell) Timmer of San Tan Valley, AZ; Teddy Oitzman of Dallas, TX; and Megan Oitzman of Dallas, TX; step grandchildren: Laura (Donald) Sweeney of Cedar Falls, IA; Meghan Horan of Cedar Falls, IA; and Tyler (Jolene) Christensen of Ankeny, IA; great grandchildren: Landon Stegmaier; Samantha and Ariela Chavez; and Brecken, Peyton and Jaxson Rutt.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 1, 2023 at the New Hope Methodist Church in Dumont, Iowa with Rev. Dennis Burns officiating. Interment will be in Dumont Cemetery.
