Vernon Perciful, a proud U.S. Army veteran and longtime
auto mechanic, passed away peacefully surrounded by his
family.
Born in San Diego, California, Vernon was the youngest of
four siblings. After graduating from Grossmont High School,
he was drafted into the United States Army in 1968. He
served during the Tet Offensive and was wounded in
combat during the Vietnam War. For his service and
sacrifice, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He returned
home with quiet pride in having served his country.
Following his military service, Vernon built a solid career as
an auto mechanic. He worked for several companies
before finding a rewarding long-term career with Kmart
Automotive. He served customers at multiple locations and
ultimately retired in Phoenix, Arizona.
Vernon was a dedicated member of VFW Post 7968 and
American Legion Post 27, both in Apache Junction,
Arizona. He took great pride in his military service and in
the camaraderie of these veterans’ organizations.
He is survived by his brother Eddie, his sister Janet, his
son Michael Edward, his grandsons Shane and Brice, and
six great-grandchildren. He also fathered additional
children who he found out about later in life, Michael
Charles and Grandsons Pace, Dante, and Vance.
Vernon made many friends throughout his life and will be
deeply missed by all who knew him!
