Virginia Marie Price, 91, died on January 7, 2014, in Mesa, AZ. She was born July 12, 1922, in Chicago, IL to Ruth and Peter Reno and raised by Ruth and stepfather, Jerry Lane, along with four siblings. Virginia met her sweetheart, George, in 1936, while she was eating an ice cream cone. They married in 1940 and shared their lives together for 66 years. As a young woman she was employed as a switch board operator, and during WW II she cared for her first son while George served overseas. She worked as a secretary for Sears Corporation in Chicago for 20 years after raising her family of three children in Oak Park, Illinois. After retiring she and George moved to Mesa in 1983. She volunteered for 20 years at Desert Banner Hospital. Virginia was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing, oil painting, needlepoint, and knitting sweaters for charities. She was a kind, loving person and her family and friends will miss her great sense of humor, warm hugs, and sweet smiles. The family would like to thank the many friends who enriched her life at Good Shepherd Villa and is grateful for the loving care she received from the staff at The Oasis in Mesa and The Villa hospice, as well as the support from Hospice of the Southwest.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George, and is survived by her sister Betty, three children, Dennis, Ronald, and Peggy (John) Dole, one granddaughter, Michele, and several nieces and nephews. Private services will be held and a celebration of life for friends will occur at a future date.
