Wallace Begay, Sr was born on October 17, 1947, to the late Kee T. Begay and Mabel Jim Nakai Begay in Red Valley, Arizona.  His siblings are Lucy Herder, Betty Cohoe, Hurley Jackson, Amy Jackson, Myra Begay, Walter Begay and Warren Begay. He married on August 19, 1968 to his beautiful wife Bernice Begay who he loved for 52 years.  He even married her a second time.  They raised five children, Ricky Benally, Terrilene Begay, Wallace Begay, Kathleen Begay and Donovan Begay. In 1974 Wally gave his heart to the Lord and was filled with the Holy Ghost at Apostolic Bible Church in Mesa Arizona under Rev. Tommy D. Hudson where he faithfully attended and served for over 40 years.  He dedicated his life to his family, and Jesus Christ.  Wally was a master Nissan mechanic by trade, but he used those talents to keep Sunday School buses running, pastors and evangelists on the road, and helped countless friends and families. Wally was papa to Makayla Begay, Shayna Begay, Heather Yazzie, Kelsey Yazzie, Nicole Begay, Camryn Begay, Joshua Yazzie, Joseph Yazzie, Lyssi Begay, Chris Begay, Jayce Begay, Emmalyn Begay, and Dolii Begay and he was Cheii Cheii to David Encinas.

Wally was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, pastor, mentor, spiritual leader and friend.  He worked for God building ministries in Chinle, New Mexico, Show Low, Mesa and Obregon Mexico and ministered in prisons, parks or wherever God led him.  He was unashamed and ready to worship God anywhere and everywhere.  He pastored Faith Apostolic Ministries for 10 years in Mesa, Arizona, but most of all he loved people and he let them know it.  He did many thoughtful little things for no reason at all, just to say I love you.  He never gave up on anyone no matter what.  He prayed and prayed, and God answered.  He was a real man of God and someone you could depend on or look to for strength, guidance and prayer no matter the day or hour, he was always there.

Wally Begay, a giant of a man, strong, loyal and dedicated with his wife and daughter by his side, and with his children and grandchildren all worshiping God together, entered into paradise on January 31, 2021.

  8. Brother Dwayne and Sister Rachel Purvis says:

“Hello Brother!” Followed by a big comforting strong handshake, and manly hug. This is how Brother Wallace Begay greeted me the very first time I saw him, and every time since for nearly 30 years later. Brother Begay was a true Man of GOD, who loved and genuinely cared for people. You seemed to always be available to those who were in need.
Brother Begay clearly loved his wife Bernice, and she loved him too. Just to be in their presence was peace and comfort. They raised a remarkable family who are equally loving, kind, giving, gracious, and full of the love of GOD. Brother Begay chose well, and the fruit of his life will remain.
Brother Begay was a Master Mechanic professionally, and kept vehicles running. With the fruit of the Spirit, he did his absolute best to keep many of us running. He has shown us the way and what the power of Love can do. For those of us who know him, we are thankful for this Great Man, and this Great Man of GOD.

  9. Barry Blankenship says:

I have never seen a man love souls the way Bro. Wally did. I’m beyond thankful for the great example he set before me as a young boy in our time in Mesa and those special trips we made to New Mexico together. He will be greatly missed, but we must carry the torch he left behind and win those souls he had yet to reach. This is not goodbye, but this is we’ll see you soon.
With much love and appreciation to the Begay family,
    Pastor Barry Blankenship.

  10. Audrey says:

In Jr High we enjoyed showing our love by wrapping yards in tp (toilet paper). I remember Bro. Wally telling us his trees were special & we could only wrap them in Charmin. 😂 I have many memories of the house on Parsell Cir. Swimming in the pool, hiding Monopoly money around the house, the big farmhouse table. Your home was a refuge to many. His boisterous laugh & great big smile indicated an open, giving heart. Much love ❤️

  11. Jackie Estrada says:

We were shocked when we heard that Bro Wally got COVID-19 God only knows why We were saddened to know he passed but take comfort in knowing he is With his Savior Jesus Christ. He is getting his Crown ,he deserves it. He left an amazing legacy and will be missed.. praying for the family Bro & Sister Estrada
