William C. Traynor of Gold Canyon AZ, born August 31, 1924 in Curryville, MO passed away October 27, 2012 in Mesa, AZ. He was the last child of Homer Traynor and Marie Stephenson Traynor. His brothers, Paul (Reba), Podge (Marie), Tinsley (Dorothy Lee), Richard (Jane) and sister Macie Ogden Petrie (Harry) all preceded him in death but sister-in-law Jane of Ft. Smith, AR. He is survived by wife, Ella Jane (Millspaugh) Traynor, sons William Patrick (Sally) of Tucson, AZ, Richard Michael (Chris) of Chandler, AZ, one son Robert Blaine preceded him in death, daughter-in-law Debbie Traynor of Mesa, AZ, 9 grandchildren: Brian (Jen)(Stamatia,deceased) and their children, David, Darian,& Natalie Traynor of Portland, OR, Matthew (Ann) and their children: Sarah, Jason, Nicole, Kate, & Max Traynor of Idaho Falls, ID; William F. Traynor of McAllen TX; Emily (Eric) Olsen and their sons Reid, Alex, Dane and Henry with USAF in Germany; Anne, (Greg) Crowther, and Elizabeth of Tucson, Sean Traynor, Erin (Kevin) Rhineheimer and children Kinley and Jackson of Chandler, AZ Lisa (Matt) Tomnitz and Cameron and Lara Traynor and her daughters, Ciera & Karina of Mesa AZ; 18 great grandchildren and a Navajo daughter, Lorraine Kelwood and her daughters Courtney & Candice, and granddaughter Lia of Window Rock, AZ. Bill, his brother Dick, and their mother moved to Bosler, WY when Bill was a child. He attended school in Bosler until moving to Laramie for high school. After graduation from Laramie High School, he enlisted in the USAF and received pilot’s training to be a bomber pilot during WWII. He remained in the Wyoming Reserves and was called to service during the Korean War where he flew over 100 missions as a part of the Mosquito Wing. Returning to WY he became a member of the Laramie Fire Department. Later, he moved his family to Louisana, MO to manage land and cattle for Woodson K. Woods. While in MO he also was in the trucking business with his brother Tinsley. From Missouri, he moved his family to North Dakota where he was head herdsman for the Patterson Land Company. From there he spent time in California, again working with registered cattle. In the 1960’s Bill and his brother Dick moved their families to Arizona. Bill bought the Texaco Station in Apache Junction. He and his sons ran 3 Texaco stations in Mesa and Apache Jct. While his oldest sons were attending Arizona State University, they encouraged their dad to go to school and finish the degree he had started 20 years before at the University of Wyoming. He received his BA in English Education at Arizona State University in 1969 and began teaching at Mesa High School where he met and married Jane Millspaugh, also a teacher at Mesa High. Later they purchased the Water Wheel Lodge in Estes Park CO, dividing their summers between Colorado and Arizona. After selling the Colorado property, they purchased a farm in Curryville MO and have enjoyed the last 20 years living in MO during the summers and AZ during the winters. After “retiring” Bill and Jane became part owners of the Red Sage Restaurant in Gold Canyon and enjoyed 7 years working at the restaurant during the winter months. Bill was always someone who had to be busy and have challenges. Some of his happiest times were spent with his family. He loved being Grampa to his 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. The family will have a private service on Nov. 9. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held in MO next spring. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or the Hope Center in Bowling Green, MO.
