Willis Ray Cooper of Mesa Arizona passed away on July 9, 2023, at the age of 90. Willis was born on April 26, 1933, to Jesse and Flora Cooper in Shamrock, Texas. He honorably served in the Armed Services for six years. He then went to work for AT&T and worked his way up to management over his 37-year career, where all his co-workers simply knew him as “Slim”.
In 1959 Willis married the love of his life, Lena Jo Harris in Carlsbad N.M. Willis would often watch his energetic wife whizzing around at home, and say with a grin, “That’s my girl!” They raised two children, Diane and Randy. After he retired, Willis had more time for his joys, such fishing trips with Randy, big gardens, reading, building “The Great Wall of Carlsbad,” and playing with the grandkids and great grandkids. He also liked sitting on his porch, when asked what he is up to he would simple say “just watching the grass grow.” Willis will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Willis was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Flora and his brother James. He is survived by his wife, Lena, his children Randy (Corrina) Cooper and Diane (Steve) Kirchmeier, his grandchildren, Heather (Jon) Daily, Stefanie (Ryan) Korver, Philip Kirchmeier, Jessica Cooper and Kevin Cooper and great-grandchildren, Addyson and Gavin Korver. Visitation for Willis will be July 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and funeral services on July 18 at 10:00 a.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home, 7900 E Main St, Mesa, AZ.
